The World Wide Web or commonly- the Internet is most used modern world technology. Since its introduction by Tim Berners-Lee 20 years ago or so, the Internet has seen major changes. 1: Web Browsers:

How would you connect to the Internet, or open your Google, Facebook or any other website page? You would answer – by opening up a browser. And if I say that you do not have any browser, then what would you say? Probably you would not have an answer or a clue. That defines, how much importance an Internet Browser holds in the Web World now. It is practically the platform where everyone’s internet needs are fulfilled. And it is enough to confirm that the invention of the Browser is the most important invention of all time in the world of WWW.

The first Web Browser was named as WorldWideWeb, and was launched on 26th February 1991. And since then it has seen many players being entered. The first commercial web browser success was Internet Explorer that was integrated in Windows OS by Microsoft. The other major Browser applications nowadays are –Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Apple’s Safari and etc.

2: Search Engines:

With increase in website formations, and many entities from all walks of life entering the virtual world, it was beginning to acquire any information very tough and tricky, if one didn't know the site’s address. That’s when concept of search engines entered the Web market. It literally made looking for any information an easy task by just entering your query without knowing the site’s URL.

It has completely changed the face of the World Wide Web, since it is the base on which Social Web sites like Facebook,Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube  LinkedIn, StumbleUpon  etc works. It allows social media users to promptly update, upload, share in the real time with other users. 

Before this technology, sharing information was just based on mail-type systems that were far from real time streaming. It has also enabled Search Engines to incorporate the real time updates, information and figures with search results, to let users get the finest of both technologies.

4: VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol):

This was initiated by Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (IEEE) in 1970 with a structure defining VoIP technology in 1970s. It allows users to talk to anyone across the Globe by making a cheap or free call through Internet. It works by converting the voice signals into internet packets for broadcasting through Internet Cloud, which is a cheap medium in comparison to traditional Telecom Cloud. You must be using Skype. It is all based on VoIP. So now you know how this functions. This technology also enables users to chat through video, sharing files and documents and several other features. Some other web technologies based on VoIP are MSN, Yahoo messenger, and Google Voice Chat.
