Instagram For Android Is Now Available For Free Download

Instagram for Android hit an explosive one million downloads in less than 24 hours. You’ve waited and waited, and it’s finally here. Instagram has finally launched on Android, bringing the famous photo editing and sharing experience to millions of eager Android users. Instagram for Android is available for download from the Google Play store, and requires Android 2.2 and up. Since Instagram’s iPhone app hit the App Store in October 2010, Android users have been patiently awaiting a version for their phones.

Instagram – A beautiful way to share your world. It's fast, free and fun. Share your photos in a simple photo stream with friends to see - and follow your friends' photos with the click of a single button. Every day you open up Instagram, you'll see new photos from your closest friends, and creative people from around the world.

There was no word as to when this launch will happen, exactly, but the registration process itself indicated that the launch was imminent. Now, the anticipated e-mail has arrived, stating “Finally. Instagram For Android”.

On Android, Instagram looks right at home, partly due to the new not-so-iOSish look of the app. New users can create an account from within the app. An ‘unknown network error’ some people are seeing might be due to Instagram’s system coping with thousands of simultaneous new accounts being opened.

The New York Times reports that once the app was live, it saw 2,000 downloads per minute, making it one of the most successful Android launches yet. Download the app for yourself — it works with Android version 2.2 and higher — and let us know what you think.
